Type 1 · The Reformer and Type 7 · The Enthusiast. No two types are right or wrong to work together. This page shows how you may meet in ten everyday moments at work, with one thing to try in each. Use it to agree how you work, not to judge each other.
Every person is different. Read these as tendencies to talk about, not as facts about anyone.
Each line runs between two ways of working. The numbers show where each type often sits. Neither end is better.
A good mix of easy ground and places to meet halfway.
Start here: Talk about these first. This is where the two of you are furthest apart: planning, meetings and risk.
Try this: One of you writes the plan with checkpoints; the other owns the changes in between. Say out loud who does which.
Try this: Share the agenda early. Let the quieter one go first or reply in writing after; give the other a slot to think out loud.
Try this: You work at a similar pace. Build in one buffer day before anything important.
Try this: You decide at a similar speed. Before a big call, ask one person outside the two of you what you might be missing.
Try this: Use each other: the bold one names the opportunity, the careful one names three things that could go wrong. Decide with both lists.
Try this: Your styles match. Keep it regular, and say what's working, not only what to fix.
Try this: You take feedback in a similar way. Keep it two-way, ask for it as well as give it.
Try this: Thank them the way they like to be thanked, not the way you do.
Try this: You react to pressure in a similar way. Agree now what each of you will do when a crunch hits.
Try this: Raise it early and in private: “Here's what I see, what do you see?”

A Type 1 is often energised by clear standards and work done properly. A Type 7 is often energised by new projects, variety and fresh ideas.
The biggest gaps are often in: planning, meetings and risk. Pick one and agree together how you'll handle it, using the “Try this” line.
You can pick the type you think fits them in the X-Map for Work and treat it as a guess. Better still, invite them to take the free work test (5–8 minutes) and talk about it together.
A type is a mirror, not a label. It shows how someone tends to love, work or train, never who they have to be.
