Enneagram and exercise: which training fits your type?
If you keep starting and stopping, it may not be about willpower. People are moved by different things: some by goals and numbers, some by people, some by calm, some by something new. When the way you train fits what moves you, it’s easier to keep going.
No type is better at exercise
Every type can enjoy training and keep it up. What changes is what keeps each person coming back, and what quietly makes them stop. Two people of the same type can also like very different classes. Use your type as a starting point, then notice what really works for you.
Three things that decide whether you keep going
- Why you train. Results and goals, or feeling good and finding meaning.
- How you like to be coached. Some people want it straight and detailed, others want it gentle and encouraging.
- What happens after a missed week. Some people bounce straight back, others need a gentle way back in.
None of these is right or wrong. They tell you what to look for in a class, a trainer and a routine.
Find what fits you, in 10 minutes
- Take the free fitness test (5–8 minutes). It shows what moves you, what makes you stop and the classes you may enjoy.
- If you have a trainer, open the X-Map for Training together and pick both types.
- Look at the moments marked “adjust your style” first, and agree one small change for your next session.
Trainers and members
In the X-Map for Training, each moment sits on a line between two ways of training, for example “push hard” and “steady & gentle”. Neither end is better. When a trainer and a member sit far apart, the trainer adjusts first: small changes are often what keep a member coming back.
Trainer and member pairs
Each page shows two types in ten moments of a training relationship, with one thing to try in each. Either type can be the trainer.

What is the best exercise for my Enneagram type?
There is no single best exercise for a type. Your result shows classes you may enjoy, as ideas to try, not rules. The best training is the one you keep coming back to, so notice what feels right for you.
Is this a fitness test or medical advice?
No. It doesn’t measure fitness or health, and it isn’t medical advice. Check with a doctor before you start a new kind of training, especially if you have an injury or a health condition.
Why do I keep stopping?
Often it’s not about willpower. The way you train may not fit what moves you. Read the guide Why you keep stopping exercise, and what fits you better.
I’m a trainer. How can this help me?
It helps you coach each member their way: how they like to be corrected, how hard to push and how to welcome them back after a missed week. Studios can use it with their whole team too: see For studios and gyms.
How do I know my type?
Take the free fitness test. It takes 5–8 minutes. If your top types are close, read the page for each one and see which you recognise most.

A type is a mirror, not a label. It shows how someone tends to love, work or train, never who they have to be.
